There’s something about the long cold grey months of January and February that make you want to set your sights on warmer brighter days. And what a better way to lift your spirits than to plan a girlfriend getaway?
Every spring I go on one, and if I’m really lucky, two girl’s weekends. We always plan our girl’s trips in January, so I figured you might also be looking for ideas for a girl’s weekend. And even if you’re not, I thought you might like a little escape from this:
For one of my girl’s trips last year, we went to Miami’s South Beach. Here’s the dish on where we stayed, what we wore, where we ate and where we shopped.
For starters, we stayed at the famous Fountainebleau.
If you’ve not heard of the Fountainebleau, it’s one of the most iconic hotels in Miami. It’s a hot celeb hang-out (though sadly we didn’t see any) and unbeknownst to me it’s been featured in many movies. The place is huge – kind of like a Vegas hotel set up – with six beachside pools, 11 restaurants, nightclubs (notably LIV) and a very highly rated spa.
Here’s a view of the beautiful hotel lobby. Kind of retro meets elegance.
Here’s a look at our room. It had a nice set up and was very comfortable.
And the view was amazing!
And here’s what it looked like poolside:
Makes you want to pack your bags and leave for Miami, doesn’t it?
We all shared one of these cozy little cabanas one day.
We had a great time in our cabana with lots of fun girl talk and some yummy libations!
We had big plans to go to the LIV nightclub in the hotel, but after we saw the massive numbers of people filing into the lobby to get into the place and how young everyone was (not a lot of 40-something mom types) we had second thoughts on going. We decided to do the next best thing — have a drink in the lobby bar and people watch. People watching in Miami is a must do activity I just have to say!
Every morning, I went for a jog or walk down the boardwalk that runs beachside along the hotel. It was really great to be able to leave the hotel and end up right on the walk.
Check out the sunny beach!
On to the eats! There are so many fabulous restaurants to choose from in Miami, and I have to say, all of our meals were out of this world. The first night we ate at Casa Tua. It’s one of the top rated restaurants in South Beach. It features northern Italian food. We sat in the luxurious Mediterranean garden.
Here we all are before dinner.
I didn’t think to snap a picture of any of our entreés, but everything was delish. The service was outstanding and sitting out in the garden was lovely.
That night we went to the Delano for a few drinks. I would highly recommend their poolside bar for a nightcap.
We totally loved this place. It was very laid back…a great place to relax for a few drinks and nice conversation. There was a mix of people, but mostly a thirty and up crowd. Here we are all cozied up on our outdoor sectional overlooking the poolside bar.
For our second night out we went to Juvia for some pan-asian cuisine. Here we are on our way out the door from the hotel:
Juvia’s located on a penthouse level and the views are amazing.
We couldn’t want to leave Miami without partaking in some local Latino cuisine so we chose Ola. It did not disappoint!
What would a girls’ trip be without a little shopping? We spent our fair share of time at Lincoln Road Mall. Talk about electric! This street’s got it all from big box retail to stylish boutiques with tons of restaurants and outdoor cafes sprinkled in along the way. And don’t forget the people watching!
A look inside one of the many boutiques:
So for the wrap on Miami– I think Miami makes a great girl’s weekend destination, especially if you’re looking for warm weather and the beach. It has tons of great restaurants to choose from, awesome hotels, any type of nightlife you’re looking for and great shopping.
It was definitely cool to stay at the Fountainebleau. It’s a gorgeous property with a very upbeat vibe. The pool area was an awesome place to hang and the poolside service was outstanding. The are a few downsides of the Fountainebleau. For one, the property is huge. It’s a lot of walking to get from your hotel room to the pool, and if you’re going with a large group, you may end up with rooms in separate towers. It’s also a little on the pricey side.
Next up I’ll be tell’n y’all about my Nashville girl’s weekend–giddy up!
