Hello, it’s Renita. Remember me? I’m back and ready to get the party started again!
Thanks for hanging out and waiting for me. I know it’s pathetic that I haven’t logged a blog post in such a long time. Every once in a while I just swallowed up by life. Does this ever happen to you? Does it get you down and make you feel like you’re doing something wrong? It does me. The month of August is pretty much a complete blur to me, but I’m picking myself up by the boot straps and getting back at it.
So where to begin? Well, the kids are back in school…It’s good and bad, isn’t it? On one hand I’m happy to have a little alone time, but on the other hand I’m depressed because it means getting up super early to get everyone set with breakfasts and lunches (does anyone else totally despise making lunches?) and insanely hectic evenings filled with carpools, homework and projects. Please, I want summer back!!
What else is new…? I don’t think I told you I’ve been suffering from plantar fasciitis for three months now. Add that to a summer of eating and drinking (…whoever said you’re supposed to lose weight in the summer lied!) and not being able to run or do any lower body weight training and you got yourself six pounds of pudge that won’t budge. That’s rather depressing.
Plantar fasciitis is one of those things you’ve never heard of until you have it and then you find out every other person has it or has had it. If you’re not familiar, it’s basically a strain in the ligament that supports the arch of your foot. It causes extreme pain in the heel and/or arch and is most common in middle aged-women so I really can’t figure out how I got it — ok, I’m 46; I guess that qualifies me as middle-aged. Don’t we middle-aged women have enough to deal with already?! It’s brought on by running and/or tight calves. I’ve been in physical therapy for three weeks now and in addition to wearing a night guard to bed (I’m a teeth clencher)
I get to wear a foot brace:
I’m a sight to behold at bedtime, really…I mostly feel bad for my husband…
So anyhow…it’s summer and I since I’ve already gained six pounds and I’m depressed that the kids are back in school, you’ll be happy to know that I found a new favorite alcoholic drink recipe. It’s almost as good as good RumChata (another super delicious addictive drink I’ve recently discovered). It’s call “Summer Brew“, and it’s perfect for that Labor Day party you’re throwing or you’ve been invited to or to just drink in the kitchen as you’re making dinner…
It’s basically 2 bottles of Mexican beer, 1 can of limeade and 1 cup of vodka mixed together and poured over ice. You can be made less sweet by adding additional vodka or beer. It tastes like a light margarita—SO GOOD, but it goes down really easy, so be careful or you might find yourself dancing on the kitchen counters!
What else…oh, since I’m now wearing a mouth guard and a foot brace, I figured I might as well go for the bifocals. No really, way back when I posted about how the eye doctor insulted me by giving me my bifocal prescription without my even asking for it. Well, I’m proud to say that by being blessed with very long arms and the aid of the flashlight app on my phone (the best app EVER!) I’ve successfully been able to avoid those old lady glasses for over a year now. Well something happened all of a sudden (must be that darn plantar fasciitis – I’m blaming it for everything) and now I can’t see anything. So I’ve succumb to my first pair of bifocals. Here I am in the cheapies I bought at Walgreens. I’m smiling in this picture, but trust me, I’M NOT HAPPY!
Now I’m finding you can’t just own one pair…no, I now need to keep one pair in my purse for travel, one pair in the laundry room for reading the tags on clothes, one pair in the bathroom for reading labels on bottles, one pair in the kitchen for recipes and one pair in my office for paperwork. No wonder they sell these things everywhere you go – even the Hallmark store. I don’t like it, I don’t like it one bit. I know I’ll feel better when I finally get a designer pair. If I have to wear old lady glasses, they’re going go be designer!
So I guess you could say that in addition to being completely overwhelmed by the change in life that back to school brings – I’m in a funk. Don’t you worry…next time I’ll be back to my normal blog posts…fashion (don’t think all this has kept me from shopping…I’m in a funk, but I’m not dead!), beauty, diet, exercise, diet and exercise…Did I say diet and exercise?! You know the drill.
God, it’s good to be back!!
