This time of year, it’s difficult to avoid the doldrums – winter starts to feel like it is dragging on and on, the holiday eating and spending hangover is still lingering and with every last trace of color drowned from your face from lack of sun, it’s hard to cheer yourself up with a look in the mirror. For me, there’s only one cure for the winter blues, and that’s some shopping!
Shopping for clothing this time of year can be tricky – the stuff on the winter clearance racks is usually sparse and the spring fashions are not all completely out. However, as any seasoned shopper knows, there’s never a bad time to buy a new pair of shoes!
I just love shoes! They can make an old outfit feel new again and they’re not nearly as complicated to shop for as clothes. In my mind, when it comes to shoes there are only two places to go – Nordstroms or DSW. Since I was in need of immediate and relatively inexpensive gratification, off to DSW I went.
And look what I found…heaven!!
I’ll tell you what I like about these shoes: First of all, the color combination. The leopard print speaks for it’s self – animal print never goes out of style. And color block. Color block is all the rage going into spring and red is a hot transitional color right now. Imagine these shoes with a pair of jeans and a red jacket or red cardigan – AWESOME!. And wouldn’t these shoes just be perfect with a LBD?! Dressed up or down, I think these things rock. Second of all is the comfort factor. Lately, I have been having a lot of trouble finding a pump that doesn’t slide on my heel. It seems like one size is too small (my feet are all crunched up inside the shoe) and if I go up a half size, my heel is slipping. Since I’m not a fan of trying to fix the problem with an insert of some kind, this sling back is the best solution. Buckles drive me crazy. This one has elastic and it grips your heel perfectly. Also, with the hidden platform, you get the height without the pain. So comfortable! Finally, the price – these shoes look designer without the designer price – made by Guess, they have a price tags of $59.95! In my mind, they’re worth it. They will absolutely make an outfit!
Of course it’s a sin to leave DSW without buying two or three pairs at a time, so I had to have these too:
Yes, this is the same Guess shoe at the same great price, with the same designer look and comfy feel, and I love, LOVE the color block. They have a black patent upper, cobalt blue heel and a fuchsia band around the sole. Best of all, I know I was meant to have these shoes because when I left DSW I decided to take a look around Express, and I just happened upon the perfect cobalt blue dress to go with my new shoes.
And yes, I’m a mom, and no, I don’t dress up that much; (heck, I rarely shower or get out of my workout clothes) but when the time comes for that sexy date night with my husband or that impromptu party, I’ll be set. Bye, bye winter blues…hello spring!
Seriously, if you need a little spring picker upper, and you’re not in the mood for shoes and you don’t want to break the budget, head over to Express. I couldn’t find a thing I wanted in their winter line, but their new spring line is in stores now and it is full of bright colors, trendy color block solids, and romantic florals. You can preview the new spring line on their website, but trust me, the clothes are much better in person.
Have you picked up a little something that has made your day? If so, share a picture here in the comments section. We’d all love to see it!!
