Athleta active wear – if you’re into fitness or even if you just enjoy an occasional walk around the block, you’ll love Athleta! I have tried many other lines of activewear – Lucy, Lululemon, Nike and Title Nine to name a few and I have to say I like the style, fit, and quality of Athleta the best. Whether it’s yoga, weight training, running, skiing, walking, hiking, biking, golf, tennis, travel or simply a day out running errands, they’ve got you covered with high quality, trendy and comfortable active wear.
Anyone who knows me well, knows I love fashion and I love to dress up; but let’s face it, with a passion for fitness and a life spent shuffling three kids from activity to activity, I’m lucky to get a shower on some days, let alone a chance to put on a full face of make-up. I often find myself going straight from the gym to the grocery shopping or out to run errands in my work-out clothes or in something I can quickly throw on and feel put together, but casual and comfy – and that’s Athleta clothing – it is clothing made for real life.
If you haven’t already noticed, I’m a self-proclaimed Athleta brand loyalist!
From a morning run to a day of hiking in Switzerland, I love my Athleta clothing! And let me show you the rest of my collection:
My Athleta ski clothing – Aren’t the long underwear so cute in the leopard print? Love them! I especially like the long sweater in the middle. I have worn it for at least three winters now. It is so warm if I put a turtle neck underneath it works as a jacket too. Paired with leggings and cute furry boots, I am set for a day on the go or a casual dinner on the ski hill.
My Athleta casual wear – I bought the sweatsuit in the upper left to wear on the flight to Hawaii a couple of years ago. It is made by LOTUS for Athleta – very soft, and I like the scroll detailing. The pants in the middle are my favs! They have a soft almost fleece like lining so they are warm in the winter – perfect for walking the dog. Most of all I love how flattering they are on. With a bit of a bootcut and a tighter fit through the hips, they are tailored like a jean, but way more comfortable.
My Athleta running and work-out clothing – I liked the fit and styling of the top with the funky print in the middle so much I had to get it in every color. Their work-out pants are great too. They come in so many different cuts and lengths; you can find one to fit any body type.
Up until the last couple of years, Athleta has been a catalog based retailer, and I’m not kidding when I say, no matter what the season, there is something on every-single-page of their catalog that I want. In fact, I sometimes hold off on placing an order because I can’t widdle my list of items down enough to dare press the SUBMIT ORDER button!
It should come as no surprise that when I heard Athleta was opening their first Chicagoland store, I had to be there. So last Wednesday I cancelled all my plans and with gift certificate in hand (from the hubby for Valentines), I made the hour plus long drive to the new Athleta store in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. Can’t you tell I’m a girl who has her priorities straight?!
A picture of the inside of the new store:
It was so fun to be able to see and touch all the clothing at Athleta. The store is located about two blocks south of Addison on Southport and right by an L-station. Very easy to get to providing there’s not Cub’s game that day!
It’s in a great neighborhood with tons of restaurants, boutiques and some chain retailers like Anthropologie and Free People. A perfect destination for a day of shopping. And street parking was easy to find (of course it’s probably best on a week day).
And no, don’t worry, I didn’t leave the store empty-handed!
Athleta is known for their swimwear. The suit on the left is a performance suit with a built-in bra that provides enough support it can double as a work-out top (even for us well endowed women!). I love the mix and match tankini on the right and you can’t tell, but the sweater in the middle is open stitched and can be worn as a coverup over the suits – love that look!
These pants were so comfortable (thanks to a hint of stretch in the fabric) and looked so cute on. As always, an awesome fit. Same with the top. I especially liked the color and the fun print on the front. Easy to throw on and instantly look put together.
Athleta clothing may not be the lowest priced line of fitness wear, but you get what you pay for in terms of quality. I have been purchasing clothes from Athleta since before they were bought by the GAP company back in 2008. Suffice it to say that many of the items I shared above are several years old and have made it through countless washing, and they’re still in great shape. And the even better part, if you’re unhappy for any reason, Athleta has a fabulous no hassle return policy – “Love it or return it. Any time. Any Reason.” In fact, the clothes I bought at the store came with a tag on them that reads: ATHLETA’S DON’T SWEAT – IT GUARANTEE We don’t subscribe to “you wear it, you bought it.” That’s why we offer a 100% guarantee. Test it against your toughest workouts and if it doesn’t meet your performance standards, you can return it, no sweat.” That’s pretty hard to beat!
And if you’re not up for the price tag, you can always hold out for the sales. Athleta has two great sales a year. If you’re willing to take the chance that they’ll still have your size, that’s a great way to buy. In addition, if you’re a GAP card holder they sometimes run promotions for a certain percentage off your purchase.
Gotta run….remember, there’s only one shopping day left until tomorrow!!
